What does your EDC look like?
First off, what does EDC stand for... Electric Daisy Carnival in Vegas?
Haha for some! But for most others and for the focal point of this article, EDC stands for Every Day Carry. It is the essential items that you MUST HAVE while you are out & about! They are the items that will ruin your day or make you feel naked without them on your person.
Of course, depending on your line of work, daily functions or lifestyle, your EDC will be quite different from others... For people in an industry that require a firearm or those with a Concealed Carry Permit (also known as CCW), yours probably might look something like the above pic but with a variation of style, color, or brand.
So let’s get to it! Does one REALLY NEED to have all that stuff on them???
Let me explain (super brief):
Keychain (Carabiner) - House key and Car Key (maybe two) right? Well what about your Office key, Mailbox key, Lock/Safe key, etc? A carabiner can help with having multiple sets of keys that are often detached, and makes it easy to secure to and attach other things.
Pocket Knife - Serves multiple purposes: Opening packages, cutting fruit, cutting thru hard plastic ties, peel tedious stickers, poke holes to create small openings, and of course let’s not forget the legal self-defense use of it!
Flashlight - Whether you are afraid of the dark or not, we are always needing to look under something dark, into a dark enclosure, looking for something in our cars at night, and much more. But they are also very convenient & useful in a dark alley or parking lot! 600 to 1000 lumens is MONEY!
Slim Wallet - Remember those big & bulky “uncle wallets” that fold and could probably break a window if you threw it at one??? All you really need is something for your driver’s license, medical card, a couple credit cards, maybe a few business cards and a money clip built into it. What’s really popular these days, are those slim carbon fiber wallets that could hold a ton of cards! (I have one, but prefer the soft leather ones)
Cell Phone - I’ll leave this one alone due to its obvious necessity!
KEEP GOING FOR THOSE INDUSTRY-RELATED GUN ENTHUSIASTS!!!
Casual but sturdy Gun Belt - Because you don’t want to be obvious with a full on tactical belt, and it blends well with your outfit. Depending on the size of your holster, a belt with a width of 1.5 “ should be just fine.
IWB Kydex Holster - Inside the Waist Band for better concealment. As far as placement, whatever feels best and practical for you to access. Some like Appendix or Back, but most common placements are 4 or 5 o’clock positions. I say Kydex because if you’re an everyday carrier, those comfortable leather holsters tend to bend over time. And god-forbid that it causes a physical mishap when you need it the most! Kydex will keep its form throughout its entire life.
And there you have it folks! What’s in your Every Day Carry?
